Caffeine and social media as well as nutrition can affect energy

If you’ve been feeling more tired than usual, you’re not alone. Many people are noticing a drop in energy—even if their lifestyle hasn’t changed dramatically.

Here’s what could be behind your fatigue—and how to fix it.

1. Blood Sugar Highs and Lows

Meals high in refined carbs or sugar can cause quick energy spikes followed by crashes.

This can leave you feeling:

  • Sluggish

  • Irritable

  • Craving more sugar

What helps:

Balance your meals with protein, fibre, and healthy fats to keep energy steady throughout the day.

2. Not Eating Enough Real Food

Processed food or relying on snacks can lead to low energy intake, and poor nutrition without you realising it.

What helps:

Focus on proper meals:

  • A balanced breakfast

  • A satisfying lunch

  • A nourishing dinner

Consistency matters more than perfection.

3. Low Iron or Nutrient Intake

Fatigue can sometimes be linked to low levels of key nutrients, especially iron.

This is more common than people think, particularly in women.

What helps:

Include iron-rich foods like:

  • Lean meats

  • Leafy greens

  • Beans and lentils

Pair them with vitamin C foods (like fruit or peppers) to improve absorption and get tested.

4. Dehydration

Even mild dehydration can cause tiredness and brain fog.

What helps:

Drink regularly throughout the day—not just when you feel thirsty – aiming for 1.5 – 2 L

5. Too Much Reliance on Caffeine

Caffeine can mask fatigue rather than fix it.

Over time, this can:

  • Disrupt sleep

  • Create a cycle of dependence

  • Cause energy crashes

What helps:

Keep caffeine moderate – 2/3 cups of normal strength caffeine pd and avoid it after 2pm

Final Thought

Feeling tired isn’t something you just have to accept. In many cases, simple changes to your diet can significantly improve your energy levels.
